THE JOURNEY IS THE BRAND

WHY BREAK 80 ACADEMY EXISTS

I’M TRYING TO BREAK 80 TOO.

I’ve played golf since I was a kid, but for most of my life I played sporadically. Last summer, I decided to take the game seriously.

My first goal was simple: consistently shoot in the 80s. I started practicing with a purpose, studying where strokes were actually being lost, testing different techniques and building simple systems I could use on the course.

This summer, I reached that goal.

Now the goal is to BREAK 80 and shoot in the 70s.

Break 80 Academy is where I document that journey, share what works, and turn the lessons into practical systems other golfers can use.

The goal isn’t a perfect golf swing. The goal is a lower score.

THE BREAK 80 SYSTEM

What I’m Working On

Distance control on long putts, better proximity from 30 yards and in, and eliminating the tee shot that goes nowhere.

LATEST TEST

Measure. Test. Simplify.

I test putting formulas, green-reading systems, practice routines, equipment setups and course-management ideas—then keep only what helps lower scores.

THE RULE

One Bad Shot ≠ Bad Hole

The Break 80 mindset: recover, take bogey out of play when possible, and never turn one mistake into three.

OFF THE TEE

DRIVER: ELIMINATE THE BIG MISS.

You do not have to hit every fairway to break 80. You do have to stop wasting strokes with tee shots that are out of play or go nowhere.

01Setup for speed. Ball forward, athletic posture and enough room to make a wide turn.
02Sweep it. Driver is not an iron swing. Create width and feel the club moving through the ball rather than chopping down at it.
03Rotate through. Finish on the lead side instead of hanging back and trying to lift the ball.
04Pick the playable target. The objective is not maximum distance on every hole. It is maximum useful distance without bringing the disaster miss into play.
BREAK 80 DRIVER RULEPLAYABLE BEATS PERFECT.

A 230-yard drive in play gives you a chance at par. A bomb into trouble can turn one swing into double bogey.

BRUSH THE TURF AFTER THE BALL

LONG GAME

FAIRWAY WOODS: BUILD A RELIABLE SWEEP.

Fairway woods can be scoring clubs when you stop trying to hit them like short irons. The goal is a shallow, wide motion that launches the ball without needing a perfect strike.

01Ball forward of center. Give the club room to approach the ball shallowly.
02Stay wide. Feel a longer takeaway and wider arc rather than picking the club up steeply.
03Brush, don't scoop. Let the loft launch the ball. Feel the sole skim the turf through impact.
04Use it strategically. A fairway wood is valuable off the tee when driver brings too much trouble into play—and from the fairway only when the lie and target justify it.
BREAK 80 FAIRWAY-WOOD RULESWEEP. ROTATE. FINISH.

Make a confident motion toward a conservative target. Do not turn a long approach into a hero shot.
